As some of you may have seen from our excited Facebook and Twitter posts, at the end of January some of Team Snow Retreat were lucky enough to spend the afternoon hanging out with the one and only Eddie the Eagle when they volunteered at The Unofficial British Ski Jumping Championships in Le Praz!

Organised by local couple Chris and Lucie Learoyd on behalf of Ski 4 Cancer, the day was the culmination of a fierce contest between four lucky competition winners. At the first stage, entrants were asked why they wanted to jump with Eddie and how they would meet the charity fundraising target. With some looking for the ‘feeling of flying’ and others hoping to live up to their Austrian grandfather’s ski jumping legacy, the final four were chosen and flown out to Courchevel to start their training programme with a highly qualified instructor.

On the day itself, Team Snow Retreat busied themselves collecting donations and providing lashings of vin chaud and hot chocolate to the crowds of spectators. Everyone had a fab time watching the competitors jump as well as Eddie the Eagle himself.

The event raised over 1000 euros for charity Ski 4 Cancer who provide alpine based respite holidays for families living with cancer. As well as raising valuable funds, it was also part of promotion of the brand new Eddie the Eagle movie starring Hugh Jackman and Taron Edgerton that will be hitting the screens in April. Check out the trailer below, we think it looks great!
